Influence Graphics launches new business card website

Influence Graphics has launched a new new website that allows customers in the New York City area to order overnight business cards for only $65. If a customer places an order through the website by 3pm they can pick up their finished business cards the next morning at 11Am at the company’s midtown office location. Customers have the ability to either upload their own design or they can select a template offered on the site and customize it online. For customers who want high quality business cards overnight in New York City, this is a great way for them to get the turnaround they need at a reasonable price. By ordering business cards online customers save Influence Graphics production costs (the files bypass the customer service and prepress departments and go directly to the press) and so Influence Graphics can pass the savings onto our customers.

Influence Graphics Adds Web to Print Storefronts for Customers

Many of our customers have the need to order the same printed products over and over again. This includes business cards, sell sheets, brochures, post cards and much more. With our new web to print software we are able to offer our corporate customers their own company branded, convenient and secure online ordering storefronts. Storefronts are password protected so only employees authorized to order documents may gain access to the site. Additionally there is a built in approval process so a notification email is automatically sent to the designated approver within the customers organization.

Documents that our customers routinely need to order are coded and uploaded into their storefronts. We code the documents to allow them to be edited within the storefront by the customers employees. For example, when a new employee needs business cards they are directed to log onto the storefront and they select the company’s business card to customize. They enter their name, title, phone, email address, etc. as well as the quantity of cards they need. A PDF of what the card will look like is then generated for the employee to approve. Once they verify that the PDF is correct the order is submitted and awaits approval by their manager (or whomever is designated for that account). When the supervisor releases the order Influence Graphics gets an automatic notification that a new order is pending. Influence Graphics has just taken delivery of our second HP Indigo press. We have purchased a 5 color Indigo 5500 digital press with options for white ink and up to 18pt paper capability. This new press will double our digital printing capacity and allow us to provide even faster printing services to our customers here in New York City.

Graph Expo-What a Difference a Few Years Make!

I traveled to Graph Expo last week. For those of you that don’t know, Graph Expo is the major printing trade show in North America and it is held in Chicago every October. When I first starting going to Graph Expo 11 years ago I was so enamored with all the “iron” on the show floor. Everything about the show centered on offset printing. Digital was a novelty. There were usually a dozen huge offset presses running that churned out a rhythm of industrial music as they printed thousands of sheet of samples. It always felt like money was being printed with all the excitement. I remember talking to the technicians operating the equipment and asking them how long it took to ship the giant presses to Chicago and get them operational. They told we they started the process months before the show. Well this year is the first year that there was not one major offset press on the show floor (I think I did see one small 4 color press somewhere). Heidelberg, the biggest and oldest press manufacture in the world did not even bother to attend the show. No, this year’s show was all about digital. HP Indigo occupied the booth that was Heidelberg’s for many years. Even the sounds of the show floor were different….a lighter digital printing sounds versus the heavy beat of the offset presses. So here we are 11 years later and digital printing has changed the face of the industry. And it will continue to change as digital presses continue to evolve. We are seeing more and more inkjet technology being employed in most of the new presses. The good news is that in this age of being environmentally responsible, digital printing is much more of “green” than traditional offset printing. Those giant offset presses I remember at Graph Expo use to have huge waste bins that were constantly being carted off with “make ready” sheets (the paper used to get the press printing up to full speed that were not usable). Today digital printers have no or very little “make ready” and the inks they use for the most part don’t contain to VOC’s (volatile chemical compounds) found in most offset inks. So change is good! Digital printing allows our customers to print only what they need in smaller quantities, with less waste and faster turnaround. Digital printing also makes variable data printing possible where every printed document contains a personalized message to the recipient. Tax credit for Green Printing?

Deadtree Edition is reporting that a proposed U.S. tax credit for “green” printing was unveiled this week. Print Buyers Online has proposed legislation to Congress that would give a tax credit to companies that buy large quantities ($100,000 or above per year) of printing. The legislation would promote the use of recycled fibers in paper manufacturing as well as requiring papers to be certified by either FSC or SFI organizations.
